It was hard to know what the weather could be like in Muskoka in November, but I certainly didn’t anticipate being able to photograph a wedding with just a sweater! It was a gorgeous morning when I arrived at the cottage where one of Rachel’s bridesmaids (and Matt’s cousin) lives just minutes from the Sherwood Inn. The pup snoozed in the front hallway without a care for all the bustling around while the girls got ready. Rachel has a deep passion for shoes (which I can totally relate) so it was hard to not love her choice for the wedding. Beautiful details from each of her grandparents were added to her stunning bouquet.
When I arrived back at the Sherwood Inn, Matt and his groomsmen were just returning from a morning at the shooting range. They gathered in the Boathouse to get ready, laughs and excited chatter filling the rooms.
The ceremony, which originally had been planned for outdoors, was set up inside their reception room. A touching ceremony joining two loving families, with heartfelt vows and some tears from the best man. Rachel and Matt were very excited to be announced as the new Mr and Mrs.
We gathered all of the guests outside for a quick group portrait. With an amazing backdrop of trees and gorgeous light, it was not difficult to find an amazing location for family and wedding party portraits. Prior to the wedding that morning, I had taken a quick hike around the property surrounding the Sherwood Inn and was thrilled to find a gorgeous spot for Rachel and Matt’s portraits – a laid back, adventure loving couple who share a passion for the outdoors.
The newly married couple were announced into their reception – incredible food, heartwarming and hilarious speeches were shared with their nearest and dearest before moving into the other room for their dances. Opening the dance floor as husband and wife, they danced to “Head Over Feet” while their guests who knew the words sang along. One of the most touching moments of the day came when Rachel and her brother shared her father/daughter dance (her dad’s physical pain made him unable to dance with her) – and part way through, her uncles and other family members took a turn stepping in to dance with the beautiful bride.
Congratulations to Rachel and Matt – your wedding weekend was truly a dream and I am so happy for the two of you and your amazing families! Thank you for allowing me to document such a special day and for making me feel so welcome – all the best xo
