When I received Danielle’s inquiry earlier this year, I knew right away that I had to be a part of their story. Her first email to me contained not just their wedding details, but a history of their love and heartache and how they came to be in this moment. A wedding not quite like many others, theirs was a celebration and a new beginning. You see, they were already married. A secret elopement before Josh was stationed with the air force. When health issues and a lost baby brought them heartache they didn’t expect, it felt only right to use their third anniversary as a sort of fresh start.

The other part of her email explained that while they were from Ontario and getting married in Niagara on the Lake, they were currently stationed in Nova Scotia. Total kismet. I wrote her back, already in love with them and their story, and explained that we had already booked our trip out east and that it would be the perfect way to tie in that part of their life to do their engagement session there.

We started at the beautiful public gardens then on to a gorgeous beach on the coast, it was obvious how much they loved each other. But it was as we were saying our goodbyes that I spotted her tattoo. So sunsets, sand, and pretty landscapes held no weight against what this signified for them.
