I’ve known Carrie for over a decade so when she asked me if I’d document her wedding day, there was no hesitation! Carrie and Matt are the definition of finding one’s soulmate. A person who cheers you when you’re strong and holds you when you’re not. It was truly an honour to be witness to such amazing connection and what truly mattered to them. Plus having a little Game of Thrones touches tossed in was extra fun!
With Matt’s business with Sunset Memorial Cruises, they wanted to have a way to tie in this huge part of their life together. So it made sense to have their wedding at the marina at the Dalhousie Yacht Club in Port Dalhousie. Before we head to the ceremony, Matt and Carrie wanted to have a First Look. This gave them the opportunity to see each other in a private moment. Matt’s reaction to seeing his beautiful bride was such a sweet moment, but it was when they had their children join them that broke me down. Matt’s son Michael ran to them with open arms, while Carrie’s daughter Sam remained speechless with pride and love. Matt lifted Michael and when the little boy saw his dad crying, he wiped and kissed away his tears while asking if he was ok. Me? Totally crying behind my camera.
After some quick portraits around the park, we head to the Yacht Club for the ceremony. Beautiful words by Pastor Erin, some laughter and happy tears, a sand pouring ceremony symbolizing the blending of their families, and they were officially wed! While the guests head in to mingle, we grabbed quick portraits on the boat and the dock they are usually docked at.
They entered into their reception to cheers from their guests and enjoyed a fun family first dance before dinner was served – sliders and poutine! Then in the so non-traditional (but who cares anyway!) way of cutting the cake, their cut their wedding pie with a four foot sword! :)
It was such a wonderful evening and I couldn’t be happier for these two wonderful souls xo
