She travelled halfway around the world to beautiful Australia to visit her friend. Falling in love with the country in the meantime.
Choosing to stay a while, she took a job at his family’s business. And found herself falling in love with him.
Emma and Alex made plans to move back to Canada, to build a life here. They made plans for a wedding. And sometimes the best laid plans have ideas of their own. The universe made plans for them.
Emma and Alex were thrilled to find out they were expecting. But months into her pregnancy, their excitement turned to worry when it was discovered they would need to deliver at McMaster Children’s Hospital. Little Beau was born in May and spent the next few months in the NICU, where they spent every day with him.
Emma sent me an email, asking if it was even a remote possibility to see their little guy on their wedding day. There was no question in my mind of where we should be that day.
The morning of the wedding, I arrived at their home in Niagara Falls. The house was bustling with family as everyone prepared for the day. Emma’s incredible pastel dress hung in her bedroom, complete with matching shoes. Happy tears and hellos were exchanged as more family arrived, and the love was palpable.
A short and sweet, emotional ceremony at Club Roma set the tone for the day – it was truly a day of celebrating love and family. Then while the guests prepared for the party, Emma, Alex and I took the limo ride to McMaster to see Beau.
We arrived in the NICU and as the nurse led us through the unit, it was hard not to be in awe. The nurses lined the aisle way through the incubators, applauding and congratulating the newly married couple. We turned the corner and stopped short. It was an incredible sight. The amazing nurses had gone out of their way to decorate his room, knowing that they were coming. Paper doilies, signs, cards, and a gift from Beau greeted them. Having sent it ahead, he was dressed in his 3-piece suit to match his dad. It was one of those life-changing moments to see such love for a family. A family who had become THEIR family.
The limo ride back to Club Roma was undoubtedly quieter. The impact of their visit weighing on them.
But seeing their little guy seemed to give them a renewed sense of connection and presence.
A gorgeously decorated hall greeted them and the party began.
Emma and Alex, words can not thank you enough for allowing me to document such a truly amazing day and to be there for the two of you. I hope your photographs bring you many years of happiness and love for the brief time you shared with him. Love you both so dearly.
It is with the heaviest of hearts that I share that Beau passed less than two weeks after their wedding day. He was the sweetest little boy who reacted to his mom and dad’s voice with love and will forever be in the hearts of anyone who knew him.
