Prior to their session, I sent out my questionnaire to get to know the details of Rachel and CJ’s journey. They ended the email with a quote from a popular TV show “Take good picture……good funeral photo”. It seems morbid for sure, the idea of death can be daunting and overwhelming. But it’s a grounding reminder of why we as a society document our day to day life, why I and many others chose this journey to document. These photos will remain for their lifetime and into the lifetime’s of their children and grandchildren. To remove myself and my ego from any session or wedding, to document the moments with full honesty is my goal. While it’s been a subconscious goal for a few years, it’s something that’s been validated and solidified in my mind over the last year or so. It is a good reminder that clients are living a life before and after me. And that it is truly an honour to see an intimate side to their humanity and relationships.
Here is some of their journey.
In their first year of university, both on their way to the same party, they locked eyes on the city bus. Rachel says that only he could make public transit special. And special it was, because that moment began their lifetime together. A decade later, in the privacy of their room while on vacation, CJ nervously got down to one knee to ask for her hand in marriage.
This sweet and down to earth couple have so much love for one another. Best friends at their core, they find easy ways to laugh and share their lives. With a shared love of reading, it was important to add that element into their engagement session.
